Have you ever had THE full vision of a music video you’re the main character in?
You know, when you’re walking down the street listening to music and it starts pouring rain.
Or that time when you were in a train, gaze stuck at the window admiring the greenery landscapes in the horizon and listening to your favourite song?
No? Is it just a musician thing? I am pretty sure not. It happens to me quite often (…I admit. All-the-time), and not just with my own songs.
But, when it comes to my actual songs, I have these full scenarios from A to Z, from the prop in the background of an unimportant character (which in reality is an Easter Egg and therefore a really important character if you know me) to the very last second of the music video. Sometimes I feel like I could direct a whole 3-hour-long movie based on ONE single song. BEFORE the song even exists. I simply need the concept idea of the song, or the topic I want to write about and my whole filming crew and set start appearing in my mind.
Well, that was the case for my song ‘Lucifer‘ (2022), back when I used to release music under my actual real name, Estelle Alais.
But lacking a budget, self-confidence (I believed I could not PERFECTLY achieve what I had in mind, so what was the point? …Eh, perfectionism, when you show up…), and also in uncertain times (hi, Covid-19) —
All of this made this Music Video concept NEVER happen.
And now that ‘Lucifer’ was released more than 2 years ago, and since then I evolved so much as an artist & a performer, and eventually changed my stage name to Zelda Jeane, I consider ‘Lucifer‘ a thing of the past.
So of course I would not think of creating the music video for it nowadays…
…But oh, if I could have done it, here’s what I envisioned…
